Buy Local : Tuttle Farms

My family has been to Tuttle Orchards a few times now. I'll have to admit, I'm gonna be biased in this blog based on location alone. You'll read about places close to my home before I venture all the way around the city dragging two impatient kids that apparently belong to me. But I'll get to those places in due time wherever they are.

Tuttle Orchards is located in Greenfield which is East-Northeast of the circle. It is Mapquested here.

Many apples are in season right now and ready to be picked (by You!). And some others will be ripe in the next couple of weeks. And yet other will ripen in mid October. They grow 22 varieties of apples available at various times. Ah heck, here is the harvest schedule for 2009. What's your flavor??

Just remember it's not only apples. Pumpkins show up in October as well. There are also a variety of other vegetables in the stands throughout the year. And even a play area, an agrimaze , and of course hay rides. Not to mention the bees. Go check it out. Go buy a bushel of apples grown right here in Indiana. They say it tastes better .

Hoosier Outdoor Experience at Fort Harrision Park

A large event is being planned for Fort Harrison State Park for the weekend of September 26-27th. The event features a plethora of information, hands on activities, speakers, and downright fun all involving the "great outdoors". For two days this FREE event will saturate the participants with realtime opportunities to learn various outdoor experiences.

This includes hiking, biking, camping, air gun shooting, archery, archeology digs, birding, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, wildlife researching, forestry management, and seriously so much more. I imagine it will be wonder to experience it all. I am very excited about this event as I feel much of our youth today have not had the chance to get connected with the outdoors.

As I said the event is free, but you do need to register. Don't worry, registering is free also. If you have any inclination towards the outdoors, then sign up and go to the event. It should be a very good time. See you there. You can find all the pertinent information on the link below.
